Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many lights do you have?
A: 70,000

Q: How do you get the lights to move to the music
A: Using a computer and special light controllers.  See the behind the scenes page for details.

Q: How long have you been doing this?
A: I have always decorated my house for as long as I can remember.  When I bought my first house in 2006, I only had 5,000 lights on it. We now have over 70,000 and we keep adding to it each year!

Q: How long does it take to put up all the lights?
A: We usually start at the beginning of November, and we finish the weekend before Thanksgiving. We use the remaining time to test the show and fix any issues.

Q: How much is your electric bill?
A: It adds a few hundred dollars to the December bill. That number should decrease as we replace the normal bulbs with LED bulbs.

Q: Do you have your own radio station?
A: No.  We broadcast our music over a low powered FM broadcasting unit located within the display.  The effective range is only a few blocks away.

Q: What do the neighbors think about the display?
A: I have been told by many that they enjoy it and are looking forward to it each year.  To keep everyone happy, I ask that if you come to visit, please do not block their driveways and be courteous of others driving down the street.

Q: I just missed the show, will you turn it back on for me?
A: Sorry, I can't make exceptions to the times the shows run.  It is all computer controlled.
